Goldie Hawn was born in Washington DC in 1945, and she was raised in Takoma Park, Maryland. Her mother owned a jewelry shop and a dance school, and her father was a musician whose band played at major area events. When she was three, Hawn started taking ballet and tap dancing lessons. In 1961, she made her stage debut as Romeo's Juliet at the Virginia Shakespeare Festival. She attended Montgomery Blair High School (near Silver Spring), and she was a drama major at American University. After dropping out of college, Hawn ran and taught at a ballet school before moving to New York City. Her professional stage debut was in a production at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Her acting career started in 1967, when she played the role of a "dumb blonde" on a short-lived TV comedy series. From 1968-1973 she appeared as a regular on the internationally popular sketch comedy show Laugh-In. In 1970, Hawn won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her role the movie Cactus Flower.

Rip Taylor was born in Washington DC in 1935, his father was a local musician and his mother was a waitress. Taylor served in the Korean War, where he stumbled into comedy. He made his television debut in 1963 on the Jackie Gleason Show, making several appearances as "The Crying Comedian". In the 1970's, Taylor made regular appearances on many shows including Hollywood Squares, The Gong Show and Sigmund And The Sea Monsters.

Maury Povich was born in Washington DC in 1939. After he graduated from the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1957, Povich attended the University Of Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1962 with a degree in television journalism. Povich returned to Washington DC, and he quickly found work at Washington DC radio station WWDC. By 1966 he was working at WTTG-TV as a news reporter and sportscaster, where he met his future second wife Connie Chung. From 1977-1983, Povich worked in several other cities before returning to DC in 1983. In 1986, he moved to New York to host the tabloid infotainment show A Current Affair. He has said that his greatest moment was covering the fall of the Berlin Wall for that show. He quit the show in 1991 to host the newly created Maury Povich Show.

Sylvester Stallone was born in New York City in 1946, and he moved to Washington DC with his family in the early 1950's. His father opened a beauty school, and his mother opened a women's gymnasium. Stallone's parents divorced when he was nine, and he eventually moved to Philadelphia with his mother. In 1970, after sleeping in the Port Authority bus station for three weeks, a broke Stallone made his film debut in a soft-core pornography film - he was paid one hundred dollars a day. In 1971, he also starred in an erotic off-Broadway play called Score. Around this time, Stallone was also finding himself minor roles in big films - including some brief, uncredited roles.

Samuel L. Jackson was born in Washington DC in 1948, and he grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His father died of alcoholism when he was young - he had only met him twice. When he was pursuing marine biology at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Jackson joined a local acting group - he later changed his major. While Jackson was in college, Martin Luther King was assassinated - Jackson attended the funeral as an usher. Angry about the assassination, Jackson and other students protested, taking the Morehouse College board of trustees hostage. He was charged and convicted for a second-degree felony, and suspended from the campus for two years. She began her career in journalism in the early 1970's as a Washington DC-based correspondent for the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite during the Watergate scandal. By the late 1970's, she left Washington DC to anchor the news in Los Angeles at CBS/KNXT. In 1993, she became the second woman to ever anchor the national news broadcast on a major network.

Dave Chappelle was born in Washington DC in 1973, and he was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland - where he attended Woodlawn Elementary School.
